Blue Carbon

Damage to the mangrove ecosystem in Anambas has caused coastal abrasion in the area. The reduced mangrove population is affecting populations of fish that depend on the mangrove ecosystem. What’s more, mangrove systems function as “blue carbon” and can absorb five times more carbon than terrestrial plants.
Together with the communities we are planting mangrove trees to create a green belt area. The Blue Carbon initiative also supports KELAUT and Women’s Empowerment’s Ecoprint activities.
